IN THE FOOTSTEPS OF POPE JOHN PAUL II

In the darkness of communism a sparkle of hope warmed Polish hearts – the election of

Karol Wojtyla to the Vatican throne. This is not only the tour in Krakow, but a one-day tour to the places where the Pope used to live and raise up. You will see Wadowice, town where John Paul II spent his childhood, Kalwaria Zebrzydowska – Pope’s favourite monastery, which is dated back to 17th century and Lagiewniki Monastery – place of the divine Mary’s worship, which was erected with the great support of JPII.

 

Pass By: Krakow

We start the tour by picking you up from the selected hotel or the main departure point. Transfer to the first destination – Wadowice lasts approximately 1 hour.

 

Stop At: Wadowice

First part of the tour will take you to the museum organised in the family house of John Paul II. Visiting the exhibition takes about 1.5 hours. Afterwards there will be 30 minutes for seeing the centre of Wadowice – the town where the future pope was born and raised and the church where he got baptised. Then you will have a chance to try the Pope’s favourite cake in one of the local cafes.

Stop At: Kalwaria Zebrzydowska

After Wadowice you will be taken to Kalwaria (Calvary) Zebrzydowska to see John Paul’s II favourite 17th century monastery – UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Baroque church in Kalwaria Zebrzydowska is the place where you will see the holy painting of the Blessed Virgin Mary of Kalwaria.

Stop At: Sanctuary of the Divine Mercy

Next part of the tour will take place in the Sanctuary of the Divine Mercy in Lagiewniki (Krakow). This sanctuary is a place of worship of Saint Sister Faustina. Magnificent complex was developed mostly thanks to the efforts of John Paul II.

Stop At: John Paul II Center

Nearby the sanctuary is John Paul II Center – a place which is dedicated to the legacy of the Polish pope. Since 2011 John Paul II Center has held the relic of the Holy Father – an ampule of his blood, which is located in the lower chapel.

Pass By: Krakow

At the end of the tour, your driver will drop you off at your departure point.

MAIN DEPARTURE POINT: Parking Kiss&Ride (2 Mikołaja Zyblikiewicza street) in front of the “Zabka” store. Check-in at the location is 15 minutes prior to the booked tour start time.

  • Operates in all weather conditions, please dress appropriately. A dress code is required to enter places of worship and selected museums. No shorts or sleeveless tops allowed. Knees and shoulders MUST be covered for both men and women. You may risk entry refusal  if you fail to comply with these dress requirements. Comfortable walking shoes are recommended.
